Iris decided to take the letters back to Madison before she gave them to her niece. She wanted to settle down and read them a few more times before handing them off. It was hard for Iris to give them up but she knew she needed to. The letters had created a bond between her, life, Brad and the Shequomegon cabin.

The summer Brad and Iris were 14 and 10, old man Founder passed away. He lived two cabins down from theirs, was a year-rounder, they did not know him that well but he had an amazing house/cabin/property. They loved romping around exploring the red pines on the rolling hills and tramping barefoot on the sand of his sandy shoreline. Their biggest joy during the summer was digging and swimming on old man Founder's peninsula. It was the most spectacular place to be human but even more so a kid.
